Where swirls come from
Light swirl marks are fine scratches in the clear coat, caused mostly by washing: brush car washes, dirty towels and wiping dust off dry paint. They are rarely visible in the shade and obvious in direct sun, as a web of circles around reflections. What causes swirl marks goes into detail.
In a city with automatic washes on every corner, it is hard to avoid them entirely.
You can test your own car: look at the bonnet under a single bright light, such as a phone torch in a dark garage. Swirls show up as fine circular lines around the light's reflection.
What one-step enhancement is
Our paint enhancement is a single-stage machine polish. A polisher and a finishing pad level the very top of the clear coat just enough to reduce light swirls and bring out gloss. It is not multi-stage paint correction. Deep scratches, rock chips and etched marks stay, and we show you what is realistic.
- Hand wash and decontamination, including iron, tar and clay.
- Tape off trim and edges.
- One-step machine polish, panel by panel.
- Wipe-down to remove oils and check the result.
- Inspection under bright light with you.

Dark colours show swirls most, and white and silver hide them well. That is why owners of black, navy or deep grey cars are the most frequent customers for this service.
Polish, protect, or coat
Polishing alone leaves the paint clean but unprotected, so we recommend sealing it afterwards. The Full Detail includes a sealant, and the ceramic coating package already includes this same enhancement as its prep stage. If you are leaning toward a coating, you will not need to book the polish separately.
The order matters: polish first, protect second. Sealant or coating applied over swirls just preserves them.
How to keep it swirl-free afterwards
Polishing is only worth doing if you change the habits that caused the swirls. Wash by hand with two buckets or a rinse-first method, use clean microfibre mitts, dry with a soft towel, and never wipe a dusty car dry. Skip the brush wash. Our how often should you detail guide suggests a schedule.
If you want help with that routine, our exterior detailing is a hand wash and decontamination.
