Fall is the right time
Most people think about polishing in spring, when the car is filthy and the sun is back. Autumn is better. A polish removes the haze and light marks the summer left behind, and the finish you have going into winter is the one that has to survive salt, slush and months of grime.
If you plan to protect the paint afterwards, even better. Polishing first and sealing or coating second gives the protection a clean, smooth surface to bond to. The fall car prep guide has the full picture.
What one-step enhancement is
One-step means a single machine pass with one polish and pad combination, chosen for your paint. It cuts a very small amount of clear coat to level the fine scratches that scatter light, which is what swirls are. Gloss and depth come back, particularly on dark colours.
It is not multi-stage paint correction. It will not remove deep scratches you can catch with a fingernail, rock chips or etched bird droppings. What it does is give most daily-driven cars a clear visible improvement. The paint enhancement and swirl reduction page lists what to expect.
What we do before the polish
Polishing on dirty paint grinds contamination into the clear coat, so prep is half the job:
- Hand wash and dry.
- Iron and tar decontamination, to dissolve the metal particles and road tar bonded to the paint.
- Clay bar treatment, so the surface feels smooth to the touch. Here is how clay works.
- Tape off trim, rubber and sensitive edges.
- Machine polish, panel by panel, with light checks as we go.
- Wipe the panels down to show the real result.
Paint polishing is priced on quote, so we say "quoted with your vehicle". Tell us the colour, size and condition on the quote form.
Milton cars and what hurts them
The 401 and 407 are rough on front ends, but the larger cause of swirls is how a car gets washed. Drive-through brushes, dirty towels and dry wiping leave the fine circular marks you see in direct sun. Dark SUVs and sedans show it worst, and Milton has plenty of both. Our guide on what causes swirl marks explains how to avoid adding more.
If your car is new and has spent time on a dealer lot, light marks from prep washing are common too. A one-step polish is a sensible starting point before any long-term protection. Ask us about your colour: black, dark grey and deep blue show every mark, while white and silver hide most of them, so the visible improvement differs.
Polish, then protect
Polished paint is bare paint. A sealant adds weeks to months of protection, and ceramic coating adds much more. Ceramic coating in our process already includes a machine enhancement as the prep, so you do not pay for the same step twice. See ceramic coating in Milton if that is where you are heading.
We work at your home with our own water, power and lighting. Browse the Milton car detailing page for coverage. Shade or a garage helps with polishing, and rain means a free reschedule. The job ends with a walk-around under bright light, panel by panel, so you can judge the result yourself.
