The inside is where it hurts
Most pages on road salt talk about paint. In Halton Hills the real damage is often indoors. Boots carry salty slush into the footwells, and the salt dries into white tide lines. It draws moisture out of the air, so carpet stays damp, feels stiff, and smells off.
If you have seen white rings on the driver's mat, that is salt. It does not vacuum out.
That is also why salt stains return. If the carpet is only wiped on the surface, the salt stays in the pad underneath and wicks back up as it dries, leaving the same white ring a week later. Dissolving and extracting it is the only fix that lasts.
Two kinds of road, twice the grit
Highway 7 and the main roads in Georgetown and Acton get salted heavily. The concession roads and side roads get a salt-and-sand mix on top of gravel, and the second you leave the pavement your car picks up grit too. In spring it all turns to mud in the wheel arches.
- Salt in the carpet is dissolved and extracted.
- Sand under the mats is vacuumed.
- Grit in the door sills is rinsed and wiped.
Anyone who drives from Acton or Georgetown out to a rural address knows the pattern: highway salt for twenty minutes, then gravel and slush for the last five. The mix is harsher than either alone.
How we clean it
The winter salt mess add-on is +$40 on top of a detail. Interior details start from $119 $149, and we can add the outside as well.
- Remove mats and vacuum out sand and loose salt.
- Pre-treat the stained zones with warm water to dissolve salt.
- Shampoo and extract the carpet so salty water leaves, not just soaks deeper.
- Clean the door sills, kick panels and seat bases.
- Rinse wheel arches and lower panels, and hand wash on request.

Rubber mats versus carpet mats
All-weather rubber mats keep salt off the carpet, but only if they sit well and have deep edges. Carpet mats soak it up and carry it. If you drive a lot on rural roads, swapping to rubber for the winter is the best prevention we can suggest. We clean both types, and we lift whichever mat you have so the floor underneath gets the same attention.
Whichever mats you use, let them dry outside the car after a wet day. A damp mat on a damp carpet is where mildew begins, and it is a much harder job than salt.

We are based in Burlington and travel to Halton Hills. Start with the salt removal service, then the Halton Hills car detailing page, or look at Acton. When you are ready, the quote form takes about a minute. A mid-winter thaw is a good time. In cold snaps we move the car into a garage or reschedule free.
Photos of the worst stains help us plan the time. Every job ends with a panel-by-panel walk-around, and anything not right is fixed on the spot. We work Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM, and accept card, e-transfer or cash.
