Rowhouses, lots and street parking.
Most Corktown homes are older attached or semi-detached houses on small lots, with limited driveways. Cars are mostly parked on the street, in a rear lot or in a small parking pad. We bring our own water, power and lighting and need only enough room to work along the car. Narrow streets with parked cars on both sides can be tight, so tell us the street and any restrictions when you book.
Small lots can also mean that the nearest legal spot is a short walk from your door. That is fine, as long as we can reach the car and you are free for the walk-around at the end.
Rail, traffic and city grit.
Corktown is near the rail corridor and the downtown core, with busy roads like King St and Main St nearby. Cars here pick up fine metallic dust from brakes and rail, which shows as orange specks on paint, particularly on white and silver. A normal wash will not remove them, but iron decontamination will. It is included in Exterior Revival, which starts from $103 $129.
Add tar and road film from nearby construction and heavy traffic, and clay bar treatment is worth doing at the same time. See our clay bar guide for the why.
Escarpment weather and winter.
The escarpment behind Corktown shapes wind and drainage, and Hamilton winters bring heavy salt use. Lower panels, wheel arches and carpets take the worst. Winter salt removal deals with the outside, and the winter salt mess add-on is $40 on interior carpets. Before the first snowfall, a sealant helps; see winter protection.
Lighter-coloured paint shows contamination first, and darker paint shows swirls first. Either way, the outside of a downtown car usually benefits from a decontamination and a protective layer before winter sets in, rather than after.
