Prep decides everything
A coating bonds to whatever is under it. If iron fallout, tar and bonded dirt are still on the paint, you seal them in. In Hamilton that matters, because fine iron particles from industrial areas and rail corridors embed in paint and rust into orange specks.
So the day starts with a thorough wash, iron decontamination and clay, then a one-step machine paint enhancement that reduces light swirls. Only then does the coating go on. If you want to know what the clay step does, read about clay bar treatment.
The polish stage deserves a mention. Hamilton cars often have fine swirls from years of automatic washing. One step with a machine polisher reduces light swirls and brings back clarity. We are clear that it is not multi-stage correction, so deeper scratches stay, and we show you them in the walk-around.
What coating can and cannot do
A coating makes paint slick and more resistant to chemicals. For Hamilton that means brake dust, road film and winter salt do not stick as hard, and wash time drops. It does not stop rock chips, does not make the car self-cleaning and is not scratch-proof. We prefer you hear that from us now.
Compared with wax or sealant, a ceramic coating is harder and lasts longer, but it costs more and takes a day to apply.
A coating also changes how the car looks in the rain: water forms tight beads and sheets off instead of clinging. That is a side effect, not the main benefit, but owners like it.

After the coating, and where we work
Wash by hand and avoid brush car washes. The guide to washing a ceramic coated car explains the routine. We work on the Mountain, in the lower city and also travel to Ancaster, Dundas and Stoney Creek for ceramic work. We bring our own water, power and lighting, and a garage is ideal.
