Does detailing help a sale?
In most cases, yes, and for plain reasons. Photos look better. Smells do not put people off. The car feels newer under their hands. Buyers also read cleanliness as a sign of how the car was maintained.
It will not turn a high-mileage car into a low-mileage one, and it will not fix mechanical issues or hide accident repair. It removes the dirt-related reasons a buyer might knock money off.
This page is for private sellers in Burlington and Oakville listing online, owners trading in, and sellers who want the best result without doing the work themselves. For more, read detailing before selling your car.
Think about how a buyer inspects a car. They open the door and smell. They sit down and look at the seats, the footwell and the steering wheel. They check the glass for haze and the wheels for kerb marks. They look at the paint from a few steps back. Each of those is something detailing improves directly.
What we do
Pre-sale detailing is The Full Detail, planned around what buyers notice.
- Interior first: vacuum, steam vents and cupholders, and shampoo carpets and seats.
- Clean and condition leather, and wipe dash, console and door cards.
- Wash the exterior and decontaminate the paint with iron remover, tar remover and clay.
- Clean wheels, tires and arches, where a lot of dirt shows in photos.
- Apply sealant so the car stays glossy through the showings.
- Dress tires and trim and clean glass inside and out.
- Walk around with you, panel by panel.
Add headlight restoration if the lenses are cloudy, and engine bay detailing if you expect buyers to open the hood.
The sealant step is worth a mention. Selling often takes weeks, and the car gets parked outside, driven to showings and rained on. A sealant keeps the paint glossy and easy to wipe, so a quick rinse before the next showing is enough.
When to book and how long it takes
Book a few days before you list. That gives time to take photos in good light, ideally on a dry day, and to fix anything you want touched up. The detail takes 3 to 5 hours.
If you are showing the car over several weeks, a short interior wipe and a quick wash before each showing keeps it looking right. See our timing overview in how long does car detailing take.
If you are trading in at a dealership, a detail still helps. Appraisers adjust for reconditioning cost, and a visibly clean car gives them less to deduct. We cannot promise a number, but a visibly clean car gives them less to deduct.
How it is priced
The Full Detail starts from $176 $220. Sedans and coupes are the base, and size and add-ons are the only changes.
- SUV +$30, truck +$40, van or minivan +$50, exotic +$60.
- Pet hair +$40, smoke or odour +$50, heavy stains +$50.
- Headlight restoration and engine bay: quoted with your vehicle.
- If you sell two vehicles, the second is 20% off in the same booking.
A full detail typically costs far less than the sale price improvement a clean car can help you hold. We do not promise a number. Request a price on the booking page.
As an example, a sedan with some road film and a stained rear seat would be The Full Detail at the base price, with heavy stains at +$50 if needed. An SUV with a dog adds +$30 and +$40. You see the full total before booking.
Tips before you list
A few small things add to the detail.
- Gather service records and the owner's manual so they are ready to show.
- Remove personal items and park-and-go clutter before photos.
- Take photos outside in soft light, not in a dark garage.
- Be honest about flaws. Buyers trust a seller who points them out.
If your car has pet hair or smoke, that is the single most common deal-breaker. See pet hair removal and odour removal.
Do one more thing before showings: fix small, cheap items. A burnt-out bulb, a missing floor mat or an empty washer fluid reservoir are easy wins. They show you looked after the car, and they cost almost nothing.
Why mobile helps sellers
Selling a car is already a pile of tasks. Mobile detailing removes one. We come to your driveway in Burlington or Oakville, bring our own water, power and lighting, and finish with a walk-around so you approve the result before photos.
Rain delays are free to reschedule, or we move the car to a garage.
If you have a lease buyout or a vehicle you are returning instead, see lease return detailing.
