Musty is a moisture problem
Near the lake, air is damp for a good part of the year. Wet boots, a leaky window seal or a drain that is blocked can leave water sitting in the carpet pad. Within days it turns musty. Perfume will not fix that. Drying and cleaning will.
When we arrive, we lift the mats and check the footwells and the boot floor, since that is where the damp hides.
Humidity also affects how a smell behaves. A cold, dry winter day hides it, then the cabin warms and humidity rises and it returns. If you notice the smell mostly after rain or when the heater first runs, the carpet pad or the cabin air system is a likely cause.
Treating it properly
Smoke and odour treatment is a +$50 add-on to an interior detail, which starts from $119 $149.
- Locate the source, lifting mats and checking under seats.
- Vacuum and remove debris.
- Steam to break down residues and sanitize.
- Shampoo and extract carpets and fabric so moisture and dirt leave together.
- Clean glass and hard surfaces where smells leave a film.
- Treat the vents.

When it is not the carpet
If the smell started after a leak, a mechanic needs to fix the leak, or we will be cleaning the same wet carpet next month. We cannot repair seals or drains, but we will tell you what we find. Sports gear, food spills and smoke are all within our reach.
Another thing we cannot do is replace a cabin air filter, but if yours is overdue you can usually do it yourself in minutes, and it often helps a stale smell. A mechanic or the owner's manual will show where it sits.
Sports bags, school runs and sour milk
Family cars in Palermo and Uptown Core do a lot of hockey and soccer runs. Gear in a hot boot is a recipe for odour, and a spilled drink under a seat is a bigger one. If you have a spill you cannot find, tell us roughly where it was.
Booking

If you have a smoking history in the car, mention it on the form so we can plan time and decide whether to suggest a second visit. We would rather say so honestly than promise a result that one pass cannot give.
