What is different about an EV
The packages are the same. What changes is care. Electric cars have a big central screen that shows every fingerprint, a lot of glossy black trim, and often a glass roof. They also have sensors, cameras and a charge port that we treat with respect.
This page is for owners of Teslas, and of other electric models from compact crossovers to sedans. It is also for plug-in hybrid drivers, whose cabins and paint behave the same.
For general advice see EV and Tesla detailing tips. For most owners, The Full Detail is the right starting point.
One thing owners tell us is that the cabin looks clean until the sun hits it. A dark dash, a glossy centre console and a big screen show every smear at low angles. That is why we finish the cabin by checking it from the driver's seat in daylight, not just under work lights.
The interior is usually simpler than a conventional car, with fewer buttons and vents, but the surfaces that remain are the high-touch ones. Door handles, the steering wheel and the screen take the most wear.
How we handle an EV
The steps are familiar, with some EV-specific care.
- Leave the car locked and in a safe state, with the charge port closed.
- Vacuum and extract carpets and seats. Many EV cabins use vegan leather or fabric, and we pick products to suit.
- Clean touchscreens and piano-black trim with a soft, slightly damp cloth, never a soaking spray.
- Clean the glass roof and all windows, inside and out.
- Wash by hand with a gentle approach around sensors, cameras and the charge port.
- Decontaminate and clay the paint, and clean wheels and aero covers.
- Walk around with you and check the screen and trim in light.
We do not use pressure on the underbody, and we keep water away from the charge port.
Seats deserve a note. Many EVs use synthetic leather that is more resistant to staining but sensitive to harsh solvents. We use gentle cleaners and a soft brush, and condition only where it suits the material. Fabric seats and carpets get shampoo extraction the same way as in any other vehicle.
Paint and protection
EVs often come in white, black or dark metallic colours, and black and white both show flaws. Black shows swirls, white shows fallout.
If you want lasting protection, ceramic coating works on EVs just like any car. Coatings also make washing easier on cars that tend to run quietly dirty, since wide flat panels collect road film. If you are curious about whether it is worth it, read is ceramic coating worth it in Ontario.
Another point: EVs are heavy and often fitted with large wheels and wide tires, so the lower body collects more road spray. Wheel faces and arches are worth the extra attention, particularly in winter. Our winter salt removal service covers that case.
How it is priced
There is no EV surcharge. You pay the package, plus size if applicable.
- Interior Restoration starts from $119
$149. - The Full Detail starts from $176
$220. - Ceramic / Protection starts from $399
$499. - Sedans and coupes are the base. SUVs and crossovers add +$30, and exotic-class models add +$60.
- Extra vehicles in the same booking are 20% off.
Tell us the model on the quote form and we confirm the total, usually the same day.
Because there is no EV surcharge, the pricing is easy to predict. A Tesla sedan is a base-price vehicle. A crossover model is an SUV add of +$30. Add-ons only apply if you need them, such as pet hair at +$40 or heavy stains at +$50. That is the entire formula.
Daily care for an EV
Keep it simple.
- Clean the screen with a dry microfibre first, and a barely damp one if needed.
- Check wheel faces and aero covers for brake dust, which is lower on EVs but not zero.
- Wash by hand and avoid high pressure near sensors.
- Rinse salt off the lower body and wheel wells in winter.
Before long trips, check the cabin and glass inside for film that causes glare at night. Interior glass fogs and films faster than people expect, especially with a plastic-heavy cabin. A quick wipe with a clean microfibre helps between details. Detailing once or twice a year keeps the cabin in good shape.
Why mobile suits EV owners
Many EV owners charge at home, which means the car is already parked in the driveway. We work in your driveway or garage in Burlington or Oakville, with our own water, power and lighting, so we do not need to use your charger. We are fully insured.
We can work around your charge schedule.
For owners in condos, our guide on mobile detailing in condo and underground parking explains what we need in a shared garage.
